Debbi Waldear from the Cross Country and Snowshoe Center gives us the lowdown on lessons, snowshoeing and the upcoming Winter Trails Day.

Kirkwood Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Center offers two great ways to experience the winter environment, skiing and snowsheing. Both sports offer a rewarding outdoor experience and another great way to explore the Kirkwood valley.

Why Take A Lesson?

A simple ski lesson will help enormously in understanding the ‘glide’ concept which is the essence of cross country skiing and the secret to conserving your energy. Kirkwood Cross Country’s lessons are fun, comprehensive and teach you many useful skills. The goal is to meet the needs of all skiers who want to improve their skiing ability. Lessons are directed at learning specific techniques which enable the skier to move up the learning tree of skiing and to better enjoy the sport.

On Snowshoeing…
For those that feel a little intimated by slipping and gliding on skis, snowshoes are a great alternative. Snowshoes provide a  way to travel on snow without going through the process of learning  to ski. You can climb hills without worry of sliding down and you can get down hills without the skills needed on skies. It’s relaxing and stable way to enjoy a winter outdoor adventure. We think you can become an expert in ten steps, just don’t walk backwards…it doesn’t work!
